 The Cross of Freedom

Unites States of America

Just as the Cross is a symbol of freedom from sin for Christians, America has from the beginning been a symbol of freedom of religion for the rest of the world.  The founders of the United States all believed in God.  All but three believed in Jesus as Savior.  This country was founded on the Holy scriptures and the ten commandments.  The founders and many of the early presidents expressed this in their speeches and their writings.

There are those who would have us believe that any reference to anything biblical or God-focused is unconstitutional.  Actually, just the opposite is true - to suppress it is unconstitutional.

As a matter of fact, John Quincy Adams once said:

"The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”

In other words, the joining of government and Christianity, not the separation of church and state.

After 9/11, Canadian television commentator Gordon Sinclair did an editorial broadcast from Toronto.  The broadcast was given widespread but only partial news coverage. Click here to read the full text of his remarks as printed in the Congressional Record.

Recently there was a report that someone in Pakistan had actually published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.  So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is so they would know when they found one (Good one, mate!!!!).  Click here to read his editorial.

Some years ago, while thinking about the notion some folks have that politicians should leave their faith outside the door when entering the chambers of congress, I decided to write a short story to illustrate why this doesn't make sense. The result was a story called "The Earthlike Paradox".

Some people have questioned whether God has blessed America or whether the song "God Bless America" is a plea, request, or even an order, for God to bless America.  God has already blessed America greatly.  We find ourselves in deeper weeds these days since so many Americans have abandoned God and petitioned for the removal of any reference to Him from all public places.

How do we know God has blessed America?  Consider the number of people from outside America who die in boats and boxcars trying to get here.  Why do they do this?  Because America, even with its faults, and even after all these years, is still the place to go to for freedom and opportunity.

From time to time, I will also discuss other topics related to the U.S.A. that are not directly related to faith.  These will be in the 'Other Topics' section of this site.
